The range of exceptional beaches in Formentera is overwhelming. Every self-respecting traveller should keep a list of its beaches, which must include Ses Illetes, Migjorn, Ses Platgetes, Es Pujols and Sa Roqueta. Formentera is like a paradise where you can find magical spots hidden along its 20 kms. One of these is the emblematic Faro de la Mola, one of Formentera’s most acclaimed interesting sights for its amazing views of the Mediterranean. Another very special lighthouse is the Cap de Barbaria which presents an image worthy of the most beautiful postcard, combining a desert landscape with the intense blue of the sea, the beauty of which was unforgettably immortalized by Julio Medem in his film Lucía y el Sexo.
The defence towers, built in the 18th century, give you a historical route to follow combined with spectacular views such as the tower of Punta Prima, from which you can see Ibiza. At Punta de Sa Pedrera, diving enthusiasts can explore the extensive Posidonia meadow that surrounds the coast and witness one of the best sunsets on the island. If you want to get the feel of what life is like in Formentera, in the small village of San Francesc Xavier you can walk amongst its white houses, craft markets and beautiful old town.

The island opens the door to an unforgettable paradise, with a huge choice of really interesting things to do. Formentera is the ideal place to practise water sports in its crystal clear waters such as kayaking, diving, sailing and paddle surfing, among others. This typical fishermen’s delicacy has become one of the island’s stand out dishes. It has been given the Arca del gusto (taste coffer) endorsement by the international organization of Slow Food. If you are looking for the perfect entree, this has to be fried octopus; a very popular dish made with octopus, onion, green peppers, potatoes and sweet paprika. Another highly recommended starter is squid fried in its ink.
Other delicious mouth watering dishes are sofrit pagès, specially prepared for popular festivities that include a great variety of meats and sausages with seasonal vegetables, and the bullit de peix, an iconic stew made with fresh Mediterranean fish, essential for every trip. Finally, you can taste unique desserts such as flaó (cheesecake), orelletes (sweet fritters) and greixonera. The traditional book of recipes will allow you to taste a healthy, fresh, seasonal cuisine that offers lots of delicious treats.

Formentera is a gift from nature and its inhabitants strive decade after decade to continue in this way.
Even so, they warmly welcome all their visitors, offering them the best of their island, whether with its landscapes, its gastronomy or its tradition. This island is still lucky to have that tourist who helps to preserve all the characteristics of the island, pampering it as if it were his.
